Hunting is great, but you have to remember it’s inherently dangerous. I was reminded of that today.
I was flanking at the edge of our group about 50yds ahead of the line. Rooster jumped up and somebody shot across the field at a diagonal...
...right at me. Nothing quite like hearing a whole lot of birdshot whistling through cornstalks and right passed your head...
...or in this case into it.
That spot in the middle of my forehead is the result of a no. 5 shot from a 12 gauge shotgun.
I got lucky, and I’m glad I was wearing shooting glasses. Hurts like a sonofabitch.
Update: woke up and took a shower this morning, looked in the mirror and noticed something
Did a little self surgery and:
Look at that. It was still in there. Now it’s not.

Sounds like your hunting partners need to learn the basics of gun handling. Your buddy fucked you pretty bad there. Thank god your ok.

Sounds like you need new hunting partners.

Yeah, I’m big on gun safety. Needless to say I was not a very happy person when i realized what had just happened.
It’s one of those things, you’ve got to know where your guys are, and you’ve got to wait until the bird is either up or beyond the flank.
I watched two birds fly away today that I could’ve shot. One was right over a dog, the other was because our guide went to grab a bird I shot and scared another bird. Apparently he dropped to the ground so that we could shoot, but because I couldn’t see him I let it go. I’d much rather a bird get away than shoot somebody.
Guns can be fun, but goddamnit they’re still weapons that you HAVE to respect.

Can’t argue, I’d say the same if this happened to someone else.

You got Cheney’d son. Only 8 more to go and you can be like fifty cent: Broke and shot 9 times.

So, is it still in there?
I ask because a coworker pushed pea gravel in his forehead as a kid from jumping off swings. Then in his 30’s his body decided to push it back out. A doctor cut them out though.
I had a similar thing where a sliver of glass cut my right index finger, hurt like hell healed over, but still hurt. Dr. cut a hole with like a razor hole saw into my finger and she’s like “if that ain’t got it I ain’t a Dr.”
after more pain and slight infection, a ball point pen point size glass piece cane out about a week and a half later. I didn’t go back to that Dr. I was just glad it was out.
Also, as we did hunter education for Missouri, the instructor asked “ how do we keep from killing our loved ones while hunting?”
My dad answers “Hunt w ith strangers.”
So maybe just maybe they were just trying to save a loved one by shooting you.
Stay safe as you can out there.

I’m sure they are on a first name basis by now.

Shit. Glad you’re okay.
I’m sure that wasn’t a pleasant conversation with the shooter afterward...

One of my cousins ended up with a no. 8 hole in his belly from another cousin trying to shoot a dove. He was fortunate that the other shot split his cigarette instead of his eyeball.
Glad to see yours are still intact too.

We don’t think so. I’m hunting mostly with family, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t one of them. I think I know who it was, but whatever.

We don’t know who it was.

Yeah, don’t go hunting with them again. Or be around guns. Or sharp objects.
Seriously, how does that happen? I'd be throwing a fit.

My grandfather had two or three bits of buckshot embedded in his face. You could feel the little BBs in his cheekbones. I’m sure it was from a similar sort of accident. You’re a lucky guy.

Was Dick Cheney in your hunting party?

As much as it sucks, and as much as I’d say the same thing, hopefully some people learned a lesson. I’m hunting with them for two more days.

This is probably intentionally vague. Unless multiple someone’s took that diagonal shot it’s quite hard to miss who shot a 12 gauge and who didn’t. At least one person had it go off right in front of them.
Glad you are reasonably OK and planning your revenge if I read this correctly.

Several people shot, only one shot at an angle they shouldn’t have. I know it was somebody mid-line but not who. I don’t really care, as long as it doesn’t happen again.

Clean out that hole good, not a place you want to get a nasty infection. I’ve been in ammunition plants and can assure you they aren’t food/medical clean. Not to mention that it is likely lead shot. Then go re-punch your buddy in the face.

Nickel plated lead shot. Yep, I washed it out good but I’ll watch it to ensure it doesn’t get infected.

Holy crap did you get lucky. I hope he bought you some beer at least.
This reminds me when my buddy shot me with a BB gun. 4 months later I thought I had a zit on my hairline about where he shot me. Nope BB popped out.
